Volunteers

Mansfield District Hospital (MDH) volunteers complement the care provided by our staff. Our volunteers add an extra level of support and companionship to our patients and residents, enhancing their experience while with us.

Our volunteers are an integral part of the MDH team, helping us to achieve our Great Care @ MDH vision of personal, effective, connected and safe care- consistently and every time.

3 Ways to Give to Mansfield District Hospital

1. Your time. Volunteer with us.

2. Your Voice. Share your unique perspectives to help us learn, improve, and celebrate.

3. Your money: We deeply appreciate your donations and bequests.

Purpose & Values

Our volunteers bring a wonderful range of backgrounds, experiences and knowledge to support people using our services. Residents in aged care, patients in hospital and those within the community benefit from our volunteers’ enthusiasm, empathy and commitment.

Our volunteers, like everyone at MDH, are recruited and trained for specific roles. This is for two reasons. Firstly, to ensure we meet the community’s expectation that every member of the MDH team is well suited and highly skilled for the roles that they do. And secondly to ensure that the experience is rewarding and enriching for all our volunteers.

We focus our volunteering efforts to where they are needed most. We listen to people’s feedback on where our clinical, aged care and support services could be enhanced, and explore where volunteer involvement could help make improvements. As the needs of our residents and patients evolve, so too do our volunteer activities. This means we are always looking for volunteers of all ages, from all backgrounds with a range of skills and expertise.

How to Volunteer?

Our volunteers, like everyone at MDH must participate in a recruitment process and meet particular criteria to join the team.

  • Step 1: Volunteer Opportunities

Read through this website information, our Volunteer Position Description and the opportunities we have available. If you would like to know more, then either call our Volunteer Coordinator or fill in an application form here.

    Application Form

  • Step 2: Meet & Greet

Have an informal meet-and-great with our Volunteer Coordinator either by phone or in-person.

We will discuss your background and the volunteering that interest you and answer any questions you may have.

  • Step 3: Apply

Apply to join our volunteer team. This step has two parts.

Firstly, you will be asked to nominate which activity you would like to apply for, and then meet with the Volunteer Coordinator and head of the department that you’re applying to.

  • Step 4: Quality & Safety Checks

Secondly, you’ll complete four quality and safety checks including a National Police Check (paid for by MDH), a Volunteer Working with Children Check (which is free), an commonwealth statutory declaration, provide evidence of required COVID-19 and the annual influenza vaccination. These four checks are required to meet our responsibilities as a legislated health and aged care service provider.

We understand this involves filling in paperwork and some steps are online. We are here to help, so don’t hesitate to contact our Volunteer Coordinator if you would like a hand.

If both you and the department head feel you’re a great fit for the role, and the above quality and safety checks are satisfactory, we will be delighted to offer you a volunteer role.

If your application is not successful we will always provide you with feedback on the reasons why.

  • Step 5: Welcome Onboard!

Your MDH volunteering journey starts here. Our Volunteer Coordinator will support you through your orientation and training and provide you with a uniform, name badge and any equipment you need. They will connect you with the head of department where you are volunteering, who will provide you with the support and supervision to do your role.
